August Racing and Time Trial Update

Sunday23rd August - Kent CA 12 Hour TT
Ian Mackenzie has set a new age record for 69 on a Trike with a distance of 177.859. Excellent achievement. Age Records

Monday 31st August - Southend Wheelers Bank Holiday Criteriums
Simon Alexander defended both his titles, winning the Aspirants Trophy for Under23s for the third year running and the Lesley Lodemore Trophy for the second year. He is the first person to win the Aspirants Trophy for the third time, a fantastic achievement.

Thursday 27th August - Ford CC Team Time Trial, Dunton
Southend Wheelers were 26th. Results (pdf)

Wednesday 26th August - Wednesday League 2-Up
The season concluding 2-Up saw some great times; fastest on the night were James Jenkins and Simon Alexander, clocking a time of 21:55. Quickest all-Wheeler team was Dave Pennington and Matt Welbourn in 23:17,27 seconds quicker than brother Chris Pennington with Jamie Maidment. Fastest all-vets team was Peter Stiff and Phil Warner and fastest all-lady pair was mother-and-daughter combo of Denise and Jordan Kemp. Fastest lady junior was Hannah Shean, clocking a time of 25:55 with Dan Jenkins and Jack Evans, riding with Martyn Franklyn, was fastest Juvenile. Just like that, another summer has gone.

Monday 10th August - LVRC, Hog Hill
Barry Simpson was 12th overall and winner of Category D. Full results (LVRC)

Wednesday 19th August - Wednesday League
In the final race of the 2015 season for solos James Jenkins took the win with a time of 22:45, just 1 second behind fastest rider on the night Glen Moylan. Phil Warner was fastest Veteran, Barry Simpson first on Age Standard, Steve Shore first on Veterans Age Srandard, Denise Kemp fastest Lady, Hannah Shean fastest Lady Junior and Jack Evans fastest Juvenile.

Sunday 16th August - ECCA Open 12 Hour, incorporating Southend Wheelers 12 Hour Cup
Following on from his 24 hour ride, Matt Welbourn took the 2015 Southend Wheelers 12 Hour Cup with a distance of 219.50 mile, good enough for 25th overall. Dave Pennington was just over 5 miles behind, clocking 214.10 for 27th. An excellent effort by these two riders.

Sunday 16th August - Wiggle Ride, Suffolk
Carol Cartwright and Julie Kane completed the 100 mile ride

Wednesday 12th August - Wednesday League
James Jenkins returned from his break with a sub-23 minute time to win another Wednesday outing, this time 19 second ahead of Any Armiger who took a clean sweep of fastest Veteran, first on Handicap and first on Age Standard. Harrison Smith was fastest Juvenile and Hannah Shean fastest Lady. Elsewhere Russel Whitford set the fastest Fat Tyre time of the year with an impressive 27:38 - these aerodynamic mountain bikes are getting faster!
Apologies to all riders, the Handicap, Veterans, Ladies, Junior and Juvenile tables were calculating based on best 10 results, they have now been corrected to score the Best 9. No major changes to placings, but you might be wondering why your scores have dropped by 60.

Saturday 8th August - VTTA 215 Miles, E2
Mike Hennessy has beaten his own Age Record, set earlier this year; 1:02:06 for 25 Miles for Age 74. An excellent achievement. Including the record he has just broken, that is his third of the year. Age Records

Saturday 8th August - Bon Hayworth Trophy: Southend / Maldon / Chelmer / Colchester Inter-club 25
Unfortunately Southend Wheelers were unable to retain either the Individual or Team trophy with Chelmer fielding a strong team taking the top 3 places, James Jenkins the only other rider able to break the hour. Southend finished second on the team classification; our best 4 being James Jenkins, Peter Stiff, Lee Baynton and Martin Sutton. Both Lee and Martin set Personal Bests. Steve Shore was our fifth rider.

Wednesday 5th August - Wednesday League
Peter Stiff was fastest rider and first on Veteran's Age Standard with the top 3 separated by just 22 seconds. Robert Staines was fastest Junior, setting a Personal Best time of 26:43. Hannah Shean was fastest Lady. Chris Pennington, second fastest on the night, was first in Handicap.

Sunday 2nd August - Southend Wheelers / LVRC Over The Hill Criteriums+, Hog Hill
Danny Tape, Barry Simpson and Terry Butcher represented the Southend Wheelers at this annual event.Danny Tape finished in 12th place in Age Category ‘B’, Barry Simpson was 5th in Age Category ‘D’ and Terry Butcher riding ‘out of category’ in the ‘old boys’ race was 19th overall.

The Webmaster doesn't believe that any Southend Wheelers entered this event.  If he had known he would have entered and got 60 points to his name in the Sunday League......
