Spring Racing and Time Trial Update

Wednesday 26th April - Wednesday League, 10 Miles, Steeple
An unpleasant evening greeted the 8 brave riders with Peter Stiff's time of 25:35 taking a clean sweep of Fastest Wheeler, Fastest Veteran, First on Vet Age Std and First on Handicap. Fastest overall was Simon Alexander of Richardsons-Trek in 21:54. Carol Cartwright was Fastest Lady. Results    Tables

Wednesday 19th April - Wednesday League 10.7 Miles, East Hanningfield in conjunction with Essex Roads
Provisional Results:
9 Wheelers took to the road in our first joint time trial with Essex Roads on the E18 course at Hanningfield. The E18 course is slightly longer than the E21 at Steeple but for the Handicap Competition the times are based on 10 mile Handicaps, though for the Veterans Age Standard competition the times are based on the VTT Custom Distance Handicaps for 10.7 miles.
Peter Stiff was fastest rider in 27.31 just 9 seconds faster than Simon Smith. They were equal First on Handicap with Simon First on Vets Age Standard. Katie-Ann Elliston was fastest Lady, and only Junior. Fastest rider overall was Sam Allen in 23:36 with Richardsons-Trek's James Jenkins second. Provisional Results   Tables

Monday 17th April - Easter Egg TT, Steeple
A rare north-easterly wind greeted the riders as the 2017 Sunday League got underway with the traditional Easter Egg Time Trial. A big field of over 60 riders took part today. Fastest rider on the day and 2017 Easter Champion was Chris Smith III with a time of 22:24 which was his PB and good enough for First on Handicap. David Pennington was second wheeler in 22:50, Peter Stiff was Fastest Veteran and First on Vet Age Standard whilst Katie-Ann Elliston was Fastest Lady, Junior and Juvenile with a time of 27:45. Jamie Maidment set an early marker for the Fat Tyre Trophy with 29:26 and Andy Merchant set a PB of 29:02.
Away from the Wheelers, Martin Cains (Birchfield) and Matt Saunders (Team Vision) both broke 23 minutes and EETC again provided a good number of riders.

Friday 14th April - ECCA 25, E91
Due to road-works this was reduced to 15 miles. Peter Stiff was our only entrant posting a time of 37:12

Wednesday 12th April - Wednesday League 2-Up, Steeple
The season opening 2-Up saw some fast times given the windy conditions down into the 23s. Peter Stiff was half of the fastest team in 23:40, the fastest all-Wheeler team was David Pennington and Charmaine Sterling, clocking 26:43. Dan Jenkins and Adam Jones (snr) were the fastest Veteran team in 26:47 and Carol Cartwright and Nicola Wright fastest Lady team in 33:36. Special mention to Katie-Ann Elliston who dragged Chris Smith (snr) round in 29:12. Results

Wednesday 12th April - Essex Roads 6.45 TT
Paul Hart was fastest overall in 13:57

Tuesday 11th April - Maldon 10 Mile TT, Steeple
Jamie Maidment was in the top quartile with a time of 24:53

Sunday 9th April - TA 25
Ian MacKenzie recorded a time of 1:27:20 on his Trike.

Saturday 8th April - 25 Mile TT, E2
Paul Hart smashed the club record for a 25 mile Time Trial with a stunning time of 48:51, previous best was Kevin Neary's 1993 effort of 50:48. I think that is one award for 2017 sorted already. David Pennington rode 52:30

Wednesday 5th March - Essex Roads 4.6mile TT
Dave Pennington was equal second in 11:13 with Jamie Maidment 24 seconds back at 11:37

Sunday 26th March - Chelmsford CC Hardriders 25, E99
Lloyd Chapman was fastest overall in 49:37, the Southend Wheelers were represented by Peter Stiff (1:02:09), Jamie Maidment (1:03:14), Charmaine Sterling (1:08:19) and Zena Shean (1:14:11). Peter's and Charmaine's times were both PBs according to the webmasters time trial database.

Saturday 18th March - ECCA 10, E2
Mike Hennessy has opened his 2017 Time Trial account in style, claiming the Age Record for 76 for 10 miles in a time of 29:13, beating Roy Godbeer's time by 87 seconds. Jamie Maidment completed the course in 24:01. 10 mile Age Records

Sunday 5th March - Hainault Hilly Time Trial
What a start to the Time Trial season (well Jamie started it a few weeks ago at the Hard Riders event) at the Hainault Hilly. Lloyd Chapman was fastest rider in 1:06:30 but The Wheeleres were well represented with Paul Hart 2nd (1:07:16), Chris Smith III 6th (1:12:44), Jamie Maidment 1:23:16, Peter Stiff 1:27:14 and Zena Shean was First Lady in 1:38:18. Southend Wheelers won the team prize, the only disappointment was David Pennington DNF. Full report

Saturday 4th March - Hog Hill Winter Series
Jamie Maidment was our only representative today - he finished just outside the top ten.
