August Racing and Time Trial Update

 

Sunday 27th August - LVRC Last of the Summer Wine 2, Hog Hill
Barry Simpson won the 'D' Cat Race and was 15th Overall in the ABCD Race. Dan Pugh was 36th overall and 8th in the 'A' Cat Race.

Sunday 27th August - Essex Roads 25 Mile TT, E11
Peter Stiff 1:04:04 and Paul Hart was overall winner in a time of 52:37

Wednesday 23rd August - Season Finale 2-Up TT, E21 Steeple
And that is another Summer over as the Wednesday League  closes with the traditional 2-Up. Provisional Results (webmaster is unsure of the membership status of a couple of riders). Fastest riders were Phil Warner and James Mead in 24:54 some 45 seconds faster than David Pennington and Jennie Page (EETC). Fastest Southend Team were Barry Simpson and Katie-Ann Elliston, just 4 seconds faster than John Gretton & Adrian Cartwright. Dan Jenkins & Andy Merchant had the same time as Terry Butcher & Martin Sutton. Denise Kemp and Jenny Harley were fastest all-Lady Team, James & Julie Kane fastest Husband-and-wife and Carol Cartwright & Nick Elliston, Hannah Bardell & Lesley Pearce and the black-and-purple team of Cherly Perry and Jane Harris completed the 2-Up teams.

Tuesday 22nd August - Maldon 10, Steeple E21
A good turn out to compete with local legend Alex Dowsett tonight with 3 Wheelers in action; Jamie Maidment 25:39, Steve Shore 26:23 and Charmaine Sterling 28:45. Maldon have announced details of their Saturday morning 10s through September and early October - see the events page

Sunday 20th August - LVRC Last of the Summer Wine 1, Hog Hill
Dan Pugh was 22nd in the ABCD Race and Danny Tape 20th in the EFGH Race

Saturday 19th August - Barling Alpacca Farm
Whilst not exactly racing or Time Trial related, there are 3  (baby Alpaccas) at Barling, an excellent excuse for a ride around the lanes to see them.

Wednesday 16th August - Wednesday League, West Hanningfield E39 Hilly, with Essex Roads
The last event for solos, concluding the Handicap, Veteran, Lady, Junior and Juvenile competitions, was moved to the hilly E39 course due to roadworks. Chris Smith III made his only Wednesday appearance and took first spot with a time of 29:38, also good enough for First on Handicap. Dan Jenkins was Fastest Veteran and First on Vet Age Standard in 34:01 and Hannah Kane Fastest Lady. Dan Jenkins, Adrian Cartwright and Terry Butcher all set course-bests. Results    Tables

Sunday 13th August - ECCA Open 12 Hour & Southend Wheelers 12 Hour Cup
Ian Mackenzie was our only entrant in this event so is the 2017 12 Hour Champion on his trike. He has a confirmed distance of 162.4 miles, an excellent achievement.

Saturday 12th August - Southend Wheelers Criteriums, Redbridge Cycle Centre
Chris Smith III and Dan Pugh finished safely in the bunch in the 3/4 race, whist Matt Owen (London Dynamo) won the Lesley Lodemore Trophy and Michael Parry (Verulam-reallymoving.com) won the Aspirants Trophy in the E/1/2/3 Race. Full report to follow.

Wednesday 9th August - Wednesday League, Steeple.
Only seven riders braved the wind and the rain with Peter Stiff again taking all the honours (fastest rider, fastest Veteran, First on Handicap and First on Vet Age Std). Katie-Ann Elliston was fastest Lady. Thanks to EETC for marshalling tonight's event. Results  Tables

Tuesday 8th August - Maldon 10, Steeple
Steve Shore (26:27) and Andy Merchant (29:49) both rode the Maldon 10 tonight.

Sunday 6th August - RTTC National 25 Mile Time Trial
Unconfirmed reports (Facebook) report that Paul Hart recorded a time of 48:51 at the National 25, equalling the club record that he set earlier in the year.
This time has been confirmed and was good enough for 29th place. Fastest rider on the day was Daniel Bigham (Brother NRG Wattshop) in 45:40

Wednesday 2nd August - Wednesday League, East Hanningfield with Essex Roads
Where has the summer gone? 5 riders braved a wet and windy evening where Peter Stiff continued his winning ways taking Fastest Wheeler, Fastest Vet, First on Vet Age Standard and First on Handicap. The only prize he didn't take was Fastest Lady - taken by his partner Lesley Pearce. Results   Tables

Tuesday 1st August - Maldon 10, Steeple
Two Wheelers tonight at Steeple for the Maldon 10; Steve Shore recording 26:42 and Andy Merchant 28:23

Sunday 31st July - Southend Wheelers / LVRC Over The Hill Criteriums+
