Southend Wheelers have a European Champion!

We're delighted to report that Southend Wheelers now has a European Champion amongst its members.

Manchester-based Bob Barber took part in the UEC European Masters Track Cycling Championships in Roubaix recently (12-17 September) and enjoyed a very successful time in the Stablinski Velodrome.

He was 6th overall in the 500 Metres Time Trial, 5th in the Points Race and took 3rd in the Team Pursuit. Not content with that, Bob went on to take victory in the Scratch race.

This comes after he and team-mate Jerry Cross (Manchester Wheelers) claimed 6th in the national LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists) Madison Championships.

Bob contributed towards Team GB topping the medals table, ahead of France and Italy. The UK squad brought home 95 medals in total, with 42 gold, 32 silver and 21 bronze making up our haul.

This week sees Bob in Los Angeles, preparing to compete in the World Masters Championships (8-15 October). You can follow his fortunes here -  Masters Worlds LA
