Peter Brown
Very sad news to end the year with, lifelong club member Peter Brown has recently died. Sunday, Christmas Eve, would have been his 88th birthday. As a legendary wizard of the watch, what more appropriate way of remembering Peter can there be than pausing for 60 seconds to reflect on his passing. Therefore, amidst the mince-pie mayhem at Canewdon Village Hall on Sunday that my wife and I are hosting, I propose asking for a minute's silence at 12 noon. Please endeavour to be back from your ride in time to be there. Terry Butcher

Sunday 22nd October - Southend Wheelers 2017 Hill Climb, North Hill, Little Baddow.
After the storms on Saturday we woke up to a dry, but windy day, for the annual Hill Climb competition. A group of about 15 riders met at Battlesbridge for the ride over to the Alpe d'Essex more commonly known as North Hill. Both the overall champion from 2016, Ben Willy, and the Ladies Champion, Katie-Ann Elliston, wanted to retain their titles so badly that they opted to drive over for more structured warm-ups on rollers. This tactic paid off with both riders winning again with Ben having the added bonus of taking the Veterans title as well. 12 riders entered the event. Thanks, as ever, to the marshalls and time-keepers and especially to Mike O'Kill for providing bacon and sausage sandwiches - always welcome on chilly autumn days. Results  Photo Gallery
