2019 Spring Racing and TT News

29th May 2019 - Wednesday League, 12.6 miles, E39, West Hanningfield (hilly), with Essex Roads
Only 5 Wheelers braved the first outing for us on the Hilly Course this year. Dan Jenkins took most of the honours; his PB was second fastest overall, fastest Wheelers, Fastest Vet, First on Handicap and First on Age Standard. The only wins he didn't take were Fastest Junior (Cavan Burrows, first race at this distance) and Fastest Lady (Katie-Ann Elliston). Andy Merchant also set a PB. Results    Tables

26th May 2019 - ECCA 25, E2
Two riders at the E2 today; fastest Wheeler was Andy Merchant setting a PB of 1:02:05 but ride of the day was Katie-Ann Elliston - a PB was just not enough, she has also set a new club record for Lady Junior with a time of 1:06:16. Fantastic pair of rides. Club Records

22nd May 2019 - Wednesday League, Steeple E21, 10 miles. (corrected, as one racer's time was missing)
David Pennington maintained his 100% record but performance of the night has to be Carol Cartwright setting a new Age Record for 66 for Ladies with her time of 31:06. Elsewhere Russel Whitford was Fastest Veteran and First on Vet Age Standard, Jennie Page set a PB as Fastest Lady and First on Handicap and Andy Merchant set a Course Best. Richard Hardiman broke 30 minutes on his first ever Time Trial. Matt Kane just missed the 30 minutes on a rare time trial appearance.

Wednesday 8th May - Wednesday League, Steeple. E21

Monday 6th May - ECCA Cycling Weekend Time Trials and Randonees
Unfortunately due to the small number of entries, the 7 and 15 mile TTs were cancelled. We had four riders in the 10 mile race on the E91 course at Leaden Roding. David Pennington (who else?) was fastest Wheeler, Jennie Page Fastest Lady, Fastest Vet and First on Handicap and Denise Kemp First on Vet Age Std. Jordan Kemp was our fourth rider. Dave Whybrow and Les Bantock put all their Mallorcan training to good use to complete the 100km Randonee

Monday 6th May - Ixworth Town Criteria
Katie-Ann Elliston and Ross Taylor both raced the Ixworth Town Criteria.

Sunday 5th May - ECCA Cycling Weekend Clues Competition (Map Reading)
This year the event was held in East Hanningfield, rather than Leaden Roding, so all those Sunday club runs gave Team Harris a slight advantage as Martin & Jane won the event, scoring the Club's first points in the Cycling Weekend (ECCA Festival) and taking ownership of the F V Banks Memorial Trophy for a year. The clues linked to create a loop from East Hanningfield to Butts Green, over the ford to Maldon, past Hyde Hall to Rettendon before looping round Hoe Lane and Chalk Street before retuning to East Hanningfield. Questions had to be answered at each clue point. It was a shame that there were only two teams entered and the future of this fun competition is in doubt. Maybe I will do a Canewdon based version for the Club BBQ.

Saturday 4th May - 10 Mile TT, E2
On a wet and windy day, Katie-Ann Elliston not only set a PB, but a new club records for a Lady Junior with a time of 23:35.
Andy Merchant also raced, finishing with a time of 24:34. Club Records

Wednesday 1st May - Wednesday League, East Hanningfield E18, with Essex Roads
Two weeks ago David Pennington was 1 second off the course record of the new E18/11.6; this week he improved his time by over a minute to 27:54 and missed the course record by 2 seconds. His disappointment was alleviated by being fastest wheeler (again, maintaining his 100% start to the season) and first on Hadicap. Elsewhere Dan Jenkins was fastest Vet, John Gretton First on Vet Age Standard and in the exciting battle in the Ladies competition, Katie-Ann Elliston pipped Jennie Page by 2 seconds. Every rider except Jan Harvey beat their previous time on this course to set their Course Bests.

David Pennington maintained his perfect start to the season with another victory, which was also the fastest '10' of the season so far.
