3 Course Bests and the Wednesday League Champion Crowned! The observant amongst you will recall that I declared David Pennington the Wednesday Champion a couple of weeks ago; this wasn't actually true as with 11 events to count he needed another race to clinch which he did in today, though Dan Jenkins Course Best saw him wrap up the honours of First on Handicap, Fastest Vet and First on Vet Age Standard. Elsewhere Andy Merchant and Katie-Ann Elliston set Course Bests, Katie-Ann was also Fastest Lady. Fastest rider on the night was ex-Wheeler James Jenkins (Richardsons-Trek) in a phenomenal time of 20:59 on a road bike. Results     Tables

Saturday 29th June - Saturday League, Canewdon E36, 7 miles
The final race of this mini summer league and we were blessed in three ways; the hottest day of the year so far, the biggest field so far and 6 hand-cyclists.
Fastest rider on the day setting the (unofficial) course record was guest rider Dan Walsh with an impressive 17:33. The race for the championship was between Barry Simpson and Russel Whitford, with Barry edging it by virtue of being fastest Wheeler in the final race. Nicola Elliston has ensured that daughter Kate-Ann isn't the only family member collected silverware this year by taking the Ladies title by 2 points from new member Nicky Hark. 9 of the 14 Wheelers set Course Bests today. In the Hand-Cycling Category Chris Madden took almost 20 seconds off the time he set last week with a rapid 20:24. 5 of the 6 hand-cyclists broke the 30 minute threshold, thanks to Rob Womack for encouraging these riders to race our event. Thanks to the marshalls, time-keepers and Jane Harris for organising this summer series. Results and Tables

Sunday 16th June - Chelmer Open 25 incorporating Southend Wheelers 25 Mile Championship and Bob Haworth Inter-club Trophy, E83 (Viper Course)
Wow, has one event had so much riding on it! Paul Hart was the fastest rider, missing the course record by a few seconds on a rare outing to the Viper course (roadworks meant that the race was moved from the usual E9 course) to take both the Southend Wheelers 2019 25 Mile Title and the Bob Haworth Individual Trophy. Jennie Page took the Ladies Title with a PB and Katie-Ann Elliston took the Junior title. Barry Simpson rode a PB (well a PB since he rejoined the club) to take Fastest Vet, First on Handicap and First on Vet Age Standard.
Southend Wheelers Men took the 3-man team prize but unfortunately Chelmer re-gained the Bob Haworth Team Trophy for Fastest Four.

Saturday 1st June - Saturday Time Trial, 7 miles, Canewdon E36
Summer is here, and what better way to celebrate 20 degree heat than a short Time Trial around Canewdon on the new E36 course. A slightly disappointing turn out of 9 Wheelers amongst the 10 riders on such a nice day (plus 7 assorted marshalls and time keepers). First to complete the course and hence set the (unofficial) course record, was guest rider Dan Marsh who finished second overall. Fastest rider was Russel Whitford, setting the course record in 18:04, John Gretton was fastest on a road bike and Nicola Elliston was fastest lady.   Results and Tables
