The updated UK government announcement of 4th July prompted the
relaxation of some COVID-19 related restrictions. This in turn prompted
updated advice from the cycling organisations that govern both the
competitive and recreational sides of our sport. Here’s a quick update
on that advice and the impact on our club members and activities:
No restrictions, provided you maintain your distance when passing
pedestrians and riders.
Only with members of your household, or with up to five other people
providing you maintain social distancing (SD).
Some venues including Lee Valley Velo park and Redbridge (Hog Hill) are
opening from 6th July for limited and pre-booked sessions on the road
and MTB circuits. Check the venue web sites for their latest status and
facility availability as this is constantly changing.
Can recommence in England from July 13th for club events and July 18th
for open events but subject to strict adherence to the CTT risk
assessment criteria. For Essex clubs, this is extended by around 3 weeks
due to technicalities around police notification forms. Watch the club
Facebook and website for latest news.
Road and circuit racing
This is more complex. British Cycling has yet to publish guidelines on
which disciplines can return and when. However, it appears from their
current assumptions that circuit racing (e.g. Hog Hill, Cyclopark) may
return in a limited form from early August, subject to restrictions yet
to be announced!
Canewdon club room
We are in contact with the Canewdon Village Hall committee and await
their plan for re-opening.
Other ‘Lockdown’ activities
The virtual clubroom via Zoom on Sunday mornings; the Zwift virtual
rides (mid-week and Sun); Turbo and roller sessions (Tues and Thurs)
will continue until further notice (see club Facebook page for details).
Thank you and keep safe everyone!
