2021 Spring Racing & Time Trial Update

12th June - Saturday League, Canewdon 7 miles, E36
Henry O'Kill maintained his 100% record at the Saturday 7 with a PB of 16:22. Adam Jones also set a PB of 19:15 and we saw our first hand-cycle of the Saturday series, unfortunately Rob Womack DNS due to a puncture. Most riders chose to ride non-aero today.

9th June - Roy Godbeer Non-Aero 10 (Wednesday League), Steeple E21
A delightful evening saw James Lonergan crowned 2021 non-aero champion with a time of 24:04. The evening also saw PBs for Dan Pugh, Oliver Pidgeon and Cavan Burrows, a course-best for Martin Harris and a new Age record for 68 years for Carol Cartwright and for 84 years for Michael Street. Jennie Page was Fastest Woman and Tom Womack Fastest Youth (Cavn Burrows and Antoine Royeur Brown elected to ride aero. Rob Womack set his inaugural 10 mile time at a higher average speed than his races on the 7 mile course.

6th June - Maldon 50, Steeple E21 (Sunday League)
Just 2 Wheelers in action today with Jan Harvey knocking almost 10 minutes off her previous best with a time of 2:19:04. Paul Gribbon also set a PB of 2:28:38

6th June - RTTC 32.5 mile TT, Naseby, NC16N
Dan Jenkins was 40th with a time of 1:22:48, third in his age category.

5th June - Saturday League, Canewdon 7 miles, E36
Henry O'kill was the fastest rider but Dan Jenkins (Vet) and Cavan Burrows (Junior & Youth) both set club records. The webmaster was not at the finish line; Tom Womack and Cava Burrows were both given the same finish time. If Tom crossed the line first then he would have set the Youth record only for Cavan to break it a fraction of a second later. The Veteran , Junior & Youth Team records for 7 miles were also set today. Results Tables  Club Records

2nd June - Wednesday League, East Hanningfield, 11.6miles with Essex Roads
An amazing 6 Course Bests from 8 riders as the Southend Wheelers took the top 3 places in the battle with Essex Roads. Who can top Henry O'Kill?

4 Course Bests from 5 riders on the Hanningfield course tonight. Results   Tables

15th & 16th May - TTs and Triathlons
Well what a weekend that was with Dan Jenkins setting 2 PBs and the fastest times of the season so far with a 55:33 at the ECCA 25 on the F2 course and a 21:25 a day later at a 10 mile event on the F11.
Meanwhile Jan Harvey has had an excellent tri result: "I had a great triathlon race yesterday at Southport Standard Distance ETU qualifier with my fastest time yet and came 2nd in my age group and qualified to race for Great Britain at the European Champs in 2022. I was 18th lady overall". The event had a 1,500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run.

Dan Jenkins just outside the hour in 1:00:16 which is a PB

1st May - Leo 30, F2
Jennie Page was our sole entrant recording a time of 1:16:25, just 3 minutes slower than Jenny Patience's record. Club Records

28th April - Wednesday League, Steeple E21
6 Personal Bests and 1 Course Best as Henry O'Kill sets the early season pace.

Dan Jenkins set a PB with a time of 22:49 for 19th overall. ex-Wheeler James Jenkins (Richardsons-Trek) was second overall in 19:54

21st April - Wednesday League, East Hanningfield, 11.6miles with Essex Roads
8 Course Bests from 12 riders on the Hanningfield course tonight. Results   Tables

5th April - Easter Egg 10 Mile Time Trial, Steeple E21
A cold and windy morning saw a new star rider for the Southend Wheelers with Henry O'Kill not being content with taking the Easter Egg Trophy for fastest Wheelers, but he also beat Simon Alexander (Richardsons-Trek) for fastest rider overall. Elsewhere Dan Jenkins was Fastest Veteran, Jennie Page Fastest Women and Tom Womack Fastest Youth. Henry was also First on Handicap, Veterans standings will be updated later as the VTTA have only recently announced a new set of Age Standards for 2021. Results   Tables

Covid and Roadworks Cancellations
Sadly a number of events have been cancelled already due to Covid restrictions and roadworks. The ECCA 25 mile TT on Good Friday and the Festival Road Races on 1st May have been cancelled.
A number of events on the E2 have been moved or cancelled - the ECCA 12 Hour and ECCA 100 have both been cancelled whilst some events have been moved to ge nearby F2 between Cambridge and Huntingdon
