A good start to the season
Each month we will look back over the previous weeks, and provided a quick round-up of club and racing news.
Southend Wheelers took a team win at the recent HPC open 10-mile time trial and won the veteran women’s event. (see the full news report 13-03-22).
On the road racing scene, club veteran Bob Barber, took first place in the category G two-day BMCR Vello Schils criterium events which were held at Redbridge Cycle Circuit (day one), and at the Colchester Northern Gateway Cycle Circuit (day two). Club junior, Tom Womack, collected his first British Cycling points, in the 4th category Velo Schils Spring Circuit Race 3 event, held at the Colchester Northern Gateway cycle circuit on the 20 March. Whilst Dan Pugh carried his early season form into the popular March Hare Road Race where he was competing in the 40+ Masters category, finishing in the top half of the field.
Meanwhile on the track, Bob Barber has finished impressive winter riding the boards at Derby Arena velodrome, finishing overall first place in the BMRC track league, G category, by gaining consistent three second placings across the league events.
Away from the racing Southend Wheelers have restarted their monthly ‘open weekends’ which take place on the first weekend of each month.
