These events have seen terrific growth since the early 00’s. They were previously called Randonnée’s or reliability trials and were a more relaxed and less regulated group riding opportunity.

 

Wheelers members may want to include an Audax or  Sportive event within their year's calendar. The British Cycling membership has grown from 13,000 to 150,000 + thanks to the popularity of cycling and sportives, fuelled by Olympic and Grand Tour successes.

A very busy calendar of Sportives is available via BC.  New or experienced riders can find a level of Sportive to match their ability and aspirations.  There is skills advice as well. Many sportive riders sadly bypass the Cycling Club system, which is the best way of learning to ride in a group!

Cycling UK offer Randonnée type activity rather than Sportive events.Long distance cyclists ride Audax events, with details here of Audax UK. 2024 Audax dates in our wider area are within the Club calendar. Wheelers members regularly ride these, including membership secretary Carol Cartwright, who can offer advice.
